Our Democracy is Dying and There is Only One Way to Save It
<p>For most Indonesians, 2024 will be the first time that they could vote for their desired candidates to run for this country. But this year isn’t like any other, this year the president isn’t staying neutral. The president himself, shows his support to one specific candidate, why?</p>
<p><em>Because his son is running for the throne as a vice president.</em></p>
<p>His defense was that he is a citizen of Indonesia, he has the right to not stay neutral, be a candidate’s representative, and even going as far as campaigning for one specific candidate. Does the law say so?</p>
<p>Based on the election law article 281, it was stated that all state civil apparatus must stay neutral in the election, including the president. It also stated that if the president was involved in any political activity towards a specific candidate, the president must take a leave of absence.</p>
