Dear Leaders: Don’t try to dig for gold in a gold field

<p>I had an enlightening discussion with my coach this week, and I wanted to publish this article before I miss any specifics from the advice.</p> <p>This is an excellent piece of advice, and it&rsquo;s something that I wish I had known when I first started my management career.</p> <p>It&rsquo;s true that as a manager or a leader, you have a lot of opportunities to make a difference. You can help your team members grow and develop, you can contribute to the success of your company, and you can make a positive impact on the world.<br /> But it&rsquo;s also important to remember that you&rsquo;re only one person. You have limited time and energy, and you must be careful not to overextend yourself.<br /> You will burn out if you&rsquo;re constantly overcommitting and taking on too much work.
