A Women’s Day Special

It was a special Sunday for Indian classical music lovers in Melbourne. One of the most prominent contemporary singers, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, affectionately called Ashwini Tai, performed in the James Tatoulis Auditorium at Methodist Ladies’ College in Kew. She was accompanied by Abhijit Banerjee on Tabla and Sangeet Mishra on Sarangi. This was the final performance of the three day festival dedicated to Indian Classical Music with artists from India and Australia.

Backstory & The Concert

I tried to slip in some requests for her to sing but it seemed that her set was already decided. Before the concert I got to know that she would be singing Jaijaiwanti (which was also one of my requests).
