How My St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations Have Changed

My elementary school made a big deal out of St. Patrick’s Day. There was a tradition that I didn’t care much for, but if someone wasn’t wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day, they were pinched by their classmates.

We made leprechaun traps out of pencil boxes in hopes of catching the tiny green fellow. My teacher made tiny black footprints around the room to build up the excitement that a leprechaun had visited overnight. We anxiously checked our traps the next morning to see if anyone had caught him!

We had delicious green cupcakes and cookies at our class party. A sweet treat always made my day. I smile as I type this because the memories are still clear, and it brings me back to those joyful moments in childhood when everything is new and magical.
