Bangkok is not the capital of Thailand

<p>I live in Bangkok. It is the capital of Thailand and I have been working here as a journalist for eight years. The only problem is that the city isn&rsquo;t actually called Bangkok. Allow me to explain&hellip;</p> <h1>A brief history of the Thai capital</h1> <p>For about 400 years, the capital of Thailand, then known as Siam, was a place called Ayuttaya. Ayuttaya is still there, about an hour north of the current capital and is well worth a visit if you like temples and monkeys. The city was attacked regularly by the Burmese Empire and sadly, in 1767, Ayuttaya fell to their old enemy and was occupied.
