FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE BUNGLE BUNGLE RANGE

The iconic beehive-striped domes of the Bungle Bungle Range are instantly recognizable to Australians, and probably many international visitors who make it west. Not easy to get to, or fit in with a short itinerary. More commonly a destination for road ramblers in RVs and 4 wheel drives. As a lover of desert mountains my personal itinerary was focused on the Kimberley Basin. Where else can you see some of the oldest rocks on Earth, laid down in a sedimentary basin 1.8 billion years ago?

The Bungle Bungles were an add-on to a whirlwind reconnaissance journey along the Gibb River Road, an old stock route, with a handful of friends and an experienced guide.
