Daily Encouragement: Quotes From my Buddhist Mentor

I think I’ve often been loath to promise things because I never wanted to default, which makes me appear reliable, but possibly also non-committal, I think, maybe.

I have quite a few friends, so over the years I may have demonstrated myself to be at least f-a-i-r-l-y reliable. Incidentally, that’s the moniker of a fishing guide service our family used to hire for our fishing trips in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota — Woody’s Fairly Reliable Guide Service. Now there is a good sales campaign. He claims on his website: “Over 90% of the people who fish with Woody’s Fairly Reliable® Guide Service make it back the dock safely, and that’s a conservative estimate.” No guarantees, but there’s a strong likelihood of some fun and fish to eat. If not, there was always a shore lunch of onion and bacon sandwiches he prepared for his clients.
