Iris Apfel Was Gay in Spirit, Gay in Talent, Gay in her Brashness

Who was Iris Apfel? Fashion icon and stylist. Among other things, she was an interior designer for the White House during 9 U.S. presidencies. Once retired in her 80s, she helped put on a show at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC of her personal looks from her closet. In her 90s, she taught at the University of Texas at Austin, and at 97 she signed on as a model with a top agency. She had 3 million instagram followers. She was known for her ensembles, mixed colors and patterns, and oversized jewlery and glasses.

According to Will Ganss of “Good Morning America” on ABC, “She gave older folks, especially women ( and I would add also gay men), permission to live loudly, proudly, and to take up as much space as we want to for as long as we want to.”
