Whiteness Does Not See Itself: White Individuation vs. Universal Black Accountability

<p>Whiteness is privileged to not have to spend a moment reflecting on itself. Whiteness doesn&rsquo;t &ldquo;see&rdquo; whiteness.</p> <p>For white Americans, when one of &ldquo;our own&rdquo; commits racialized terrorism, we rarely think, &ldquo;Oh no, look at what we white people are doing.&rdquo; &ldquo;We&rdquo; don&rsquo;t think like that. We are privileged to have an individualized response. All white people are not accountable for one white person.</p> <p>Historically, any Black person&rsquo;s brutalization could be an exemplar in the minority rule on plantations. Fugitive slave patrols may &ldquo;get the wrong person&rdquo; but it would still work to intimidate and control the many.
