Authenticity on Social Media: A Myth?
<p>Remember 2008, when you used to go to your friends’ Facebook wall and post something silly? Over the years, social media has changed so much from virtual spaces to connect with your peers, to something that is gradually losing the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/19/technology/personaltech/tiktok-twitter-facebook-social.html" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">‘social’ component</a>. Social media has become performative for many users, where every post has to be “Instagram perfect.” In our social media feed, we are seeing more and more posts from influencers and celebrities, ads, and pushed content that is curated and suggested for us. The contents in the feed also portray perfection that we should be aspiring to achieve. As social media continues to evolve, it fuels the question: is authenticity on social media even possible?</p>
