Why Was Julius Caesar Assassinated?

<p>Julius Caesar was recently declared dictator for life in Rome when he entered the Senate on the Ides of March 44 BCE. Forty senators attacked him, stabbing Caesar over twenty-three times. The action of these senators sparked a civil war in Rome that led to Octavion declaring himself Caesar Augustus, the first Roman Emporer.</p> <h2>The Motivation of the Assassins</h2> <p>Julius Caesar was a decorated military leader during the late Roman Republic era. His military campaigns in Gaul and Britain gained him much support and fame. He was part of the First Triumvarnat, an attempt to divide power in the ever-expanding territory of Rome.
