Architecture History — Drawing

Guy Debord’s ‘Theory of the Derive’ represents a drawing of the city as a series of situations, depicted as ‘the situationists’. I have taken this inspiration and crafted a personal reflection of areas in and around UTS, using key techniques and reasons similar to Debord. The situationist map depicts a navigational system that operates from Paris, incorporating this inspiration, I have illustrated the topographical reality of my involvement with UTS and the buildings, as the situationists are about capturing and transforming moments in everyday life. Along with everyday life, the situationists where known as the political renegades where Debord states ‘The art of the future will be the creation of situations’ (Situationist International, 1989) . I have aimed to incorporate this political aspect in relation to the Sydney’s 2014 lockout laws, like the situationists, the youth where a pivotal influence. Firstly, incorporating the UTS buildings illustrates the situations that frames my way of seeing the city. I singled these buildings because of the advanced architecture and the impact it has on our city, including buildings like the Prince Centre, Blue Building and UTS library have significant relevance due to my personal interaction with them.

Learn More
