Attorneys practicing in the United States have long relied on citing reporters as the primary means of citing and referencing case law. However, this outdated system is now holding the U.S. legal industry back by effectively granting proprietary rights [at least for some period] to legal citations and pagination that should be freely available to all. Accordingly, it is time to finally move towards universal or public domain citations that provide equal and timely access to official citations for all attorneys and companies innovating in this space.
