My Daughter is Made of Glass

The actor from Glee, Cory Monteith, had just died. The Glee creators aired the Quarterback episode where Monteith’s character, Finn Hudson, dies. I’m sitting on the couch with my twelve-year-old daughter watching this emotional scene of Finn’s mom crying after losing her son, and the dichotomy that Monteith has actually died makes the scene almost unbearably grief-stricken. The actress playing Finn Hudson’s mom starts her dialogue, tearful and struggling with her breath, she says in a melancholy voice:

“How do parents go on when they lose a child? You know when I’d see that stuff on the news, I’d turn it off cause it was just too horrible to think, but I would always think how do they wake up everyday? I mean how do they breath, honey, but you do wake up, and for just a second you forget. And, then, oh you remember, and it’s like getting that call again and again, every time, you don’t get to stop waking up…”
