Working overtime in the UAE is legal. This is as long as certain conditions are met.
·One condition is that overtime must be agreed by the employee.
· The second condition is that the employee is compensated for the eligible overtime hours.
· And third, there is a maximum of overtime hours that an employee could be asked to work.
With regards to the maximum number of hours, overtime must not exceed 2 hours a day, over the ordinary hours. The ordinary working hours in the UAE, in turns, are 8 working hours/day or 48 hours/week.
Importantly, certain type of employees and sectors are excluded from overtime limitation and compensation.
