Our adventure began at Pendik Station, a connecting station on the far Asian side of Istanbul. Pendik was actually the first high-speed Rail station in Istanbul, opened in 2014 as part of the Ankara-Istanbul “H??zl?? Tren” project. Since then, the network has expanded and now extends all the way to the European side of the city, connecting with the Marmaray Tunnel which traverses under the Bosphorus Strait. Pendik is now a convenient station that provides easy access to the outskirts of the megacity, avoiding the traffic and congestion of the busy city center.
