It might have been born in Detroit, but techno grew up in Berlin. The roots of techno can be traced back to the genius of Kraftwerk, the Godfathers of electronic music. The influence of Germany’s fab four spread to the United States during the eighties, where it was quickly embraced, repackaged and later shipped back as ‘techno’ — right in time for the collapse of the Berlin Wall. That collapse and sudden reunification of a country separated for almost thirty years would turn out to be a vital piece of techno’s story.
