Linux Development Directly On Your Mac

A lot of people say that developing software is a lot easier on Linux and I’d be inclined to agree with them but for a day to day machine I much prefer macOS. So what do we do when we need both at the same time?

My first thought was to get a Windows laptop and dual boot Linux and Windows 11 on it. This would have two advantages. The first being I could be somewhat portable when using Linux and the second advantage would be being able to play games on the latest version of Windows 11.

But that felt like a waste as I only really need one computer so my second thought was just to run Linux virtual machines on my Mac. I bought VMWare Fusion Pro and started running various distributions but because my mac is a Mac Studio it uses Apple Silicon rather than Intel x86. That meant that I could only run the AArch64 versions of Linux distros and there were some significant differences between the ARM and Intel versions.
