A Brief History of the Yellow Star
<p>Centuries ago, the Jewish population thrived in the Middle East and North Africa. Countries such as Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, and Algeria all had large Jewish communities.</p>
<p>יהודי המִזְרָח — Mizrahim Jews was a political sociological term that was coined with the creation of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">State of Israel</a>. There are Jews in the Homeland and then there is everyone else. Before Israel came into existence, these Jews were happy to be called <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sephardi_Jews" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Sephardi Jews</a> as they followed the Sephardic customs. Jews from Europe were Ashkenazi. Naming subgroups of Jews gets complicated (Yemenite Jews are entirely different). Thanks to pogroms and expulsions, the culture evolves, traditions change and new customs are created.</p>
