Bird Nerd Ecstasy! Don’t Miss This Stunning Story of One Rare Woodpecker Quartet
<p>We were visiting our son in Central Florida, sitting on the outside deck under a canopy of live oak trees when a movement caught my eye.</p>

<p>Now, if you’ve never seen a pileated woodpecker, you may not understand the magnitude and beauty of this bird, the biggest woodpecker in North America. Here in my East Central Illinois countryside home where we delight in bird-watching, we rarely see them. Over the twenty years, I’ve seen one maybe two dozen times, even though we have acres of woods on our property.</p>
