The real reason that the English-speaking world hates ‘weeaboos’ — Attitudes to Language

<p>&ldquo;<a href="https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/weeaboo/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank"><em>Weeaboo</em></a><em>&nbsp;</em>is a mostly derogatory slang term for a Western person who is obsessed with Japanese culture, especially anime, often regarding it as superior to all other cultures&rdquo; for those of you who don&rsquo;t know. In this article when I&rsquo;m talking about weeaboos, or weebs, I&rsquo;m referring mostly to people who like anime and Japanese culture but not so much to those self-professed &lsquo;Japanophiles&rsquo; who want to&nbsp;<em>be Japanese&nbsp;</em>and often fetishise Asian women.</p> <p>That&rsquo;s a topic for another day.</p> <p>As someone who is active in the Japanese fashion community in England and who watches slightly more anime than the average English youth, I have been called a weeb more than once in my life. In fact, many members of this community jokingly call ourselves weebs all the time. We are a group that is looked down upon and often assumed to be shut-in nerds who don&rsquo;t know how to socialise with others.
