Vladimir Putin is a War Criminal

Ifnothing else, the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court at the Hague has complicated the upcoming summit meeting between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping in Moscow. Thus far, Beijing hasn’t commented on the ICC’s move against its junior partner in the Kremlin, though it certainly sets the stage for Xi’s trip, reminding the Chinese of the depth of Western outrage regarding their problematic ally, and perhaps dissuading Xi from providing him with weapons.

The arrest warrant has also placed renewed attention on Russia’s systematic kidnapping of thousands of Ukrainian children, a war crime reminiscent of Stalinist population transfers, and Hitler’s social engineering. It’s a classically genocidal policy, overseen from the Kremlin, and it has garnered the world’s anger and disgust, galvanizing resistance to Russia. The ICC also issued an arrest warrant for Maria Lvova-Belova, the Russian commissioner for children’s rights, an Orwellian title for a woman who has overseen the illegal mass abduction of Ukrainian children treated as spoils of war.
