<p>The Coronation Market Riot in 1953 was a significant event in Jamaican history. It was a violent rebellion in Kingston, Jamaica, triggered by a dispute between police and market vendors over municipal regulations. The riot exposed the social and economic tensions under colonial rule and fueled the push for independence and self-governance. This event played a crucial role in the struggle for social justice and political freedom in Jamaica. During that time, there were political tensions as the Jamaican people demanded more autonomy and self-governance. In 1953, the passing of the Constitution granted limited self-governance to the country, which was a significant step towards independence. Eventually, Jamaica achieved independence in 1962. On the same day as the riot, Veronica Airey-Wilson, a City Council member, was born to Narciso and Clariana Airey.</p>
