Using Notion As My Second Brain

Since my recent productivity article about Evernote, I felt the need to revisit Notion.

All this started when YouTube started suggesting videos about Notion. The wonders of internet tracking and privacy! But at least this time it was for the best. I came across a method by Tiago Forte which he calls the PARA method and how to use it as a Second Brain. If you are interested, I suggest you check him out on YouTube. He has a no-nonsense approach to productivity in general and talks in depth about how to organize note-taking to keep track of most things in life.

At the time of writing this article, I was going through his books. For those who are interested, he has one titled “The PARA method” and another one titled “Building a second brain”. Both books can be found in paperback and Kindle editions.

With all that said and done, let's look into why I am revisiting Notion and what led me to look into this further.

My note-taking method (with a bit of task management)

It's fair to start with a huge disclaimer about my note-taking. I am a long-term Evernote user. I have been a paid Evernote user since 2012 but started using Evernote from its inception. Throughout the years, I used other tools to take notes such as Notepad ++, OneNote, Google Keep, and Apple Notes amongst others. This eventually led to a bit of disorganized organization so I naturally transitioned to using one main tool to store my notes which is Evernote.

Why Evernote? — Because it is a simple note-taking application that lets you dump every type of note in it. This includes notes, attachments, recordings, scans, emails, and web clips. All of these can be achieved without any 3rd party integrations. Evernote also lets you annotate notes and attachments via Skitch which was later integrated into the main app.
