Is It Time for a Union Comeback?

<p>There&rsquo;s perhaps no one issue I&rsquo;ve waffled on throughout the years than unions.</p> <p>On one hand, I grew up in a union household. My father was not just a member, either &mdash; he served in leadership positions in both the Patrolman&rsquo;s Benevolent Association (the crime shows&rsquo; perennial favorite &ldquo;PBA&rdquo;) and, later, the Superior Officers Association (SOA.) In the world of New Jersey policing, even management has a union.</p> <p>On the other hand, I&nbsp;<em>did&nbsp;</em>grow up in New Jersey. Union membership meant a police officer, a teacher, or organized crime. While the strength of New Jersey&rsquo;s public employees&#39; unions was (and continues to be) displayed through the salary disparities between teachers/officers in New Jersey and those in other states, the rampant abuse and corruption they facilitated in many trade unions was also constantly evident throughout our newspapers and criminal justice system.</p> <p><a href="https://medium.com/@pshanosky/is-it-time-for-a-union-comeback-351cde79f553"><strong>Read More</strong></a></p>
