Trump Draws a Hanging Judge for the January 6 Trial

<p>Oh, Karma. You are so sly. So patient. And&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rcinet.ca/en/2015/04/13/history-april-13-the-rcmp-always-get-their-man/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">like the Mounties</a>, you always get your man.</p> <p>Trump may have thought that he had it made in the shade when he drew Judge Aileen Cannon as the judge in the documents case, but you knew better. Judge Cannon can fangirl all she wants. She can grant him favorable trial dates and favorable rulings, but you just keep biding your time.</p> <p>Revenge is a dish best served cold.</p> <p>Trump was indicted for a third time on August 1, 2023, this time in Washington, D.C. And the judge he drew? None other than&nbsp;<a href="https://www.salon.com/2023/08/02/draws-gave-harshest-jan-6-sentences-and-warned-him-presidents-are-not-kings/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Judge Tanya Chutkan who not only ruled against Trump</a>&nbsp;over executive privilege in November 2021, but issued the most epic takedown of Trump that I have ever seen.</p> <blockquote> <p>&ldquo;Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President. At bottom, this is a dispute between a former and incumbent President. And the Supreme Court has already made clear that in such circumstances, the incumbent&rsquo;s view is accorded greater weight.&rdquo;</p> </blockquote> <p>Trump had tried to withhold correspondence from the January 6 committee, claiming executive privilege.
