New York Travelogue 2023 — Part One

<p>I&rsquo;m back from my first visit to New York, the city of my birth, since before the pandemic. I wasn&rsquo;t out of Penn Station more than a couple of minutes before learning that life in Manhattan has changed.</p> <p>For one thing, you can&rsquo;t go a block without a whiff of pot smoke. New York State legalized recreational marijuana in 2021. Although weed is supposed to be sold only through state-licensed outlets, the new and evidently flawed licensing process is moving so slowly that sellers are setting up bodega-like storefronts and daring law enforcement to stop them, which to date law enforcement has opted not to do.
