Thinking of Economics in A New Light As a Beginner to the Field

Onepisode fifty-two of the podcast, “Think Like an Economist,” the podcast hosts presented the topic of conversation on viewing economics as how people make decisions. Until the overwhelming data that is attainable at almost every source we now have today was present, data used to be very scarce. Economic teachers would focus heavily on what the hosts Betsey and Justin mentioned as “to assume people are rational” (Stevenson and Wolfers Think Like an Economist: Useful Economics in Everyday Life on Apple Podcasts).

Rather, the two hosts wanted to highlight that economic teachers today need to adapt to the current landscape of the field, and highlighted how economic students — like myself, should perceive the field and utilize the field to improve their lives. The common misconception with economics is that it is just about the economy and money. However, Betsey and Justin explain to students that utilizing economics to make decisions supported by economic theory and core principles will make those who utilize the practice, to have better decision making capabilities and transform various aspects of their lives.
