The Happiest Place on the Internet

Five months ago, in the middle of a networking binge, I cold emailed Connie Liu. I was taking many calls at the time, but there was a distinctive difference in our 30 minutes spent together. Our connection was instant and the conversation left me glowing. Though, I imagine that many people leave conversations with Connie feeling that way.

When riffing on product ideas for her company Tandem, I shared that I was yearning for a place to connect with other coaches. I was seeking a space to ask dumb questions and learn from others with years (perhaps decades) of experience.

Connie met the moment, quickly spinning up Coaching Corner — a slack channel — inspired by another slack community we’ve both grown to love. We each invited coaches we knew to help bring the space to life. And now, only a few months in, we have a small, engaged member base filled with coaches. The group represents a mix of industries, locations and specialities. We’ve self organized rapidly, probably because many of us come from tech (many former product managers and builders!). And within these few months, it’s come to be a space I absolutely cherish. Some highlights from my time in the Coaching Corner (with Connie) #alliteration:

Accountability: A group of us meet on Mondays to set intentions for the week. Many of us are still setting up rituals as soloprenuers. Holding weekly space and creating a sense of group accountability, in an intimate setting, has been incredibly grounding.

Training: Nine of us signed up to participate in Shirzad Chamine’s Positive Intelligence program. The program — and the collective group participation — helped me in more ways that I could have imagined. There’s new language, habits, frameworks, etc. Plus, learning is always much more enjoyable in a group.

IRL: Our group spans coasts, and continents, but so far I’ve had the pleasure of bringing a handful of online connections to life. A walk through my neighborhood with Kelly and a long coffee with Annie drew me closer into the community quicker.
