The Battle of Balance: Exploring the Long Road to Achieving Renewable Energy Parity

As the world continues to grapple with the impacts of climate change, the need for clean and sustainable energy sources has become increasingly important. Renewable energy has emerged as a key player in the fight against climate change, with countries around the world adopting policies and investing in renewable energy sources.

However, achieving renewable energy parity (or even more than that!) is a long and challenging road. In this article, we will explore the significance of renewable energy growth, the difference between percent and percentage point (because it seems as if all politicians and journalists seem to have forgotten about it!), the current growth rate of renewable and non-renewable energy sources, the time it will take to achieve a 50–50 balance, the impact of renewable energy on investment mobilization, the hindering growth of emerging markets and fossil fuels, and the challenges and obstacles to achieving renewable energy parity. In this article we will focus solely on the electricity market. Because it is made key in the transition on the one hand, and it seems to be the area with largest embracement and acceptance by the population. See for instance the now expanding citizen initiatives with solar cells on people’s home roofs, the switch to electric cars, et cetera. Or is that to a large extent the result of still existing subsidies?
