Articles Always Take Longer To Write Than Expected…

Writing is rarely ever clear cut. However, in that complexity comes immense satisfaction

Image by Ruwad Al Karem from Pixabay

In my last article, I talked about how finding success — specifically, as a writer — typically takes much longer than expected.

I posited a kind of “Law of Effort”, which states that the time you think it will take to achieve something should be multiplied between 2 and 10 to achieve the actual time it will take to achieve something.

(Upon conducting research for this article, I found out that very similar phenomena have names: Hofstader’s Law, and the planning fallacy!)

Another law that is applicable here is Murphy’s law. This is the concept that if something can go wrong, it will. A specific sub-rule of this is that if you want to achieve something, then something else must be done first…and doesn’t that just sum up the struggles of life?

It’s never simple — there are always extra steps involved!

Everything I have listed thus far is not just true of achieving success. It’s also true of the writing process itself…something we are all familiar with here.

Breaking down an article

Before you write an article, you have to actually come up with an idea of something to write about.

This gap in creativity is what drives writer’s block — the impasse hit when striving to write something. The solution to this is to be less selective about what you write; however, this should not compromise the quality of your work.

Visit Now
