DeTesting DeSantis, DeFending Drag, DeRiding Donation DeMands
<p>Living in the navy-bluest part of a blue state within the Washington, DC Beltway provides a warm, soapy bubble of liberal like-mindedness.</p>
<p>Separate incidents of <a href="https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/police-break-up-protest-at-drag-queen-story-hour-in-silver-spring/3282999/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">violence</a> and a <a href="https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/bomb-threat-sent-to-takoma-park-restaurant-and-bar-canceling-drag-brunch-event/3490459/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">bomb threat</a> recently punctured this seemingly impenetrable liberal bubble. These recent events underscore the lack of immunity to hate, even in a zero-tolerance community like mine.</p>
<p>As a counterweight to Florida’s “war on woke,” it’s hard to go out for a drink or a meal around here without encountering a drag show, drag bingo, or drag trivia. It’s enough to make the MAGAs choke on their Bud Lites.</p>
<p>Like a good liberal, I support drag queens and everyone on the LGTBQ+ spectrum.</p>
