Teenage Anorexia & Its Impacts On Development In Adulthood
<p>Eating disorders of any type come with lots of physical risks, but focusing on Anorexia specifically, as I can write from experience on that, the physical impacts are extreme, delayed development being the overarching physical impact of Anorexia. To use myself as an example here, whereas all my friends had started their periods by the age of 14, mine didn’t start until I was 18, and even then, they were very irregular. It wasn’t until I was 20 that they started ‘properly.’ So now, aged 22, I’ve only been menstruating, something which marks the ‘official’ sign of womanhood in many cultures, for two years (quick maths). Two years VS the seven or eight years of all my childhood friends. It’s perhaps unsurprising then that I feel so ‘behind’ compared to other women my age.</p>
