Success and Ego: Unveiling the Realities Behind an NFT Adventure

Part 1: A Stone That Didn’t Kill the Crypto Superman

Let’s rewind to the moment my partner (now my spouse) and I first stumbled upon NFTs. We were thrilled at the idea that artists, like us, who were not willing to compromise their integrity to climb the social ladder could find a place in a community that truly valued their work. But what exactly are NFTs? At the time, I had never bought any cryptocurrencies, and the only cryptocurrency I’d ever heard of was Bitcoin. I hadn’t dabbled in traditional stock markets either. Terms like “bull” and “bear” markets only vaguely reminded me of the Cold War. The only investment I knew was putting money into gold, and that hadn’t gone well either. In fact, I had been in the red with gold investments for the past five months. So, you’ll understand that you’re about to hear the success story of someone who started at the absolute bottom in this arena. By the way, I still don’t trust or like cryptocurrency, but that’s a topic for another article.

Back to our entry into the world of NFTs. Everything started with some research and my partner’s quest for a Foundation invite. We were frantically chasing invites on Twitter. Back then, Foundation required an invite to join. It took us about 1.5 to 2 weeks to find one. Until that point, I had never even used Twitter. During this process, I learned a lot more than just about cryptocurrencies. When we were finally ready to upload our first pieces of art, it felt like stepping out of a cave into the modern world. We had expected the process to be as easy as posting a photo on Instagram, but we couldn’t have been more wrong. Uploading art cost money, and it wasn’t cheap. We encountered new terms like “minting” and “listing,” and they came with their own price tags. It felt ludicrous to me that I had to spend money before making any. If you’d asked me a hundred times if I’d pay $100 for a chance to earn money, I’d have said no each time. Fortunately, my partner was the first to upload an NFT, and this issue was resolved. But even transferring money to MetaMask, our digital wallet, was a challenge. At least, it was in my country. To get there, I had to register with a crypto exchange, transfer money from my bank to the exchange, then from there to MetaMask, and finally link it to my Foundation account. On top of that, I had to safeguard something called a “seed phrase.” This is where I had left off, and thankfully, my partner was more tenacious. She tackled all the challenges, even after watching ten YouTube videos on how to transfer money to MetaMask. $100, hard work, and tears — that’s how this journey started. Little did we know that it would lead to much greater achievements!
