Striking down affirmative action is nowhere close to addressing the real problem

It’s enraging to see my Asian peers celebrating the Supreme Court’s June 29 ruling, which deemed affirmative action as discriminatory.

Attending a predominantly Asian high school, I was disheartened last year to hear some of my fellow students lamenting their peers’ admissions to prestigious colleges. They asserted that some got in “just because of their race” and that they “didn’t deserve” the acceptance, misinterpreting those students’ successes as stealing a position that should’ve been theirs. These conversations often revolved around misunderstandings about affirmative action and reflects why certain Asian Americans stand opposed to this policy.
