Steph Curry Said the Quiet Part out loud

I don’t get mad anymore about colorist comments made by celebrities. Colorist comments are on brand for celebrities because the views held by celebrities are quite often the same views held by the general public. Celebrities get excoriated faster because of their fame and popularity versus Ms. Juanita from the next block over who says the same thing.

Recently, basketball superstar Steph Curry was being interviewed by Wired and said that ,” We got good eyes in my family”. And apparently Steph saying this has triggered Black people. And it’s actually quite funny to me because if we’re being honest as a collective, we view different colored eyes as better than and good versus regular brown eyes. The same way that we pedestal light skin and loose hair. Colorism, texturism and featurism is so built into the American consciousness that it doesn’t have to be explicitly said to be understood to be a function of the society.
