Sonia Fereidooni Awarded the 2023 Allen AI Outstanding Engineer Scholarship

<p>Sonia Fereidooni, a BS/MS student at the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cs.washington.edu/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">UW Allen School</a>, has been named the recipient of AI2&rsquo;s 2023&nbsp;<em>Allen AI Outstanding Engineer Scholarship</em>. We offer this scholarship to one outstanding engineering student each year as part of our&nbsp;<a href="https://allenai.org/diversity" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">ongoing efforts</a>&nbsp;to encourage diversity and equity across AI disciplines and career levels and strengthen the important connections between academic and industry research. The scholarship covers full tuition for one academic year and includes mentorship and a paid summer internship at AI2.</p> <p>Sonia is studying Computer Science &amp; Engineering, Data Science, and Sociology. Her research in Computer Science spans three different branches: Unsupervised Pose and Keypoint Learning at the Brunton Lab, designing equitable pedagogies in Computer Science curricula, and exposing bias in AI and how to mitigate and remediate discovered bias. She&rsquo;ll be the lecturer for the second summer for CSE 373: Data Structures and Algorithms, where she embeds principles of Critical Pedagogy and Cultures of Dissent to further students&rsquo; social understanding of the course&rsquo;s technical computing concepts.</p> <p><a href="https://blog.allenai.org/sonia-fereidooni-awarded-the-2023-allen-ai-outstanding-engineer-scholarship-625735d65d8a"><strong>Click Here</strong></a></p>
