What Can Sociology Teach Us About Ourselves and Our Environment?

Sociology is a science that focuses on the way an individual interacts with his or her environment. Not only that, but it focuses on the group mindset of a society. Through the readings assigned so far, students are taught the basics of sociology. We see how it is implemented; as a means of understanding human life through the lens of a curious social scientist. We learn that there are no definite answers, only nuances in human behavior and interaction. Each author relates on the grounds that they are curious and nonjudgmental in their pursuit of understanding community and societal roles. These readings have collectively caused a shift in my perspective by pushing me to question myself and others, be driven by curiosity, to understand the limitations caused by a society, and to use knowledge as a tool to spark change.
