Social Anthropology of the Otherness. Part One: Primitivism and Colonialism

Social anthropology is a discipline that was completed largely due to the influence of sociologists in the late nineteenth century, mainly french sociologist Émile Durkheim (1858–1917) had a wide impact on what is now known as social anthropology. For Durkheim, it was important to establish sociology as a scientific discipline, it focused on “concrete and observable” social facts, which would be fundamental to explain the complex relationship between the individual and his social group.

This theoretical-methodological approach would be of great repercussion for sociology and social anthropology since they account for the social nature of the human being, the idea that man is a social being continues to be one of the most elementary postulates of the two disciplines.

Website
