Snow Covered Roads And Wooden Pallets

Wedrove along a snowy road in an endless white field early in the morning.

“Our luck there’s no wind today,” said the driver, a bald man in a black, worn puffer coat. “If there had been wind, we probably would have had to stop. Roads get dangerous during the wind in winter.”

I couldn’t agree more. Even without the wind, the road was covered in a thick layer of dirty snow. Alan and Kim were sleeping in the back, so I decided to indulge myself in a little chat with our driver. However, to be honest, I had no topic popping up in my head. Usually, the weather is a good conversation starter, but the weather was bad. There was not much to converse about.

Then, I noticed another wooden pallet on the edge of the road. I had seen a pallet, a crate, even a broken chair every few hundred meters now. Once, I could swear I saw a wardrobe with a mirror still attached to the door.

“What’s with the pallet on the roadside? Looks like a truck full of them had an accident and was dragged for a few kilometers,” I asked, pointing at yet another one slightly covered in snow. The driver chuckled.

“No, that wasn’t an accident. That’s on purpose,” he said.

“What purpose can a broken chair or an old wardrobe serve here? Unexpected rest?” I caught myself sounding a little sarcastic.

“Wood,” said the driver. I started to understand where he was going.

Learn More
