A Side Order of Science Learning with that Technology

I attended a talk last Friday where the designer was passing around pieces of vegetable leather. The speaker, Galina Mihaleva, is a visiting professor of fashion design at Arizona State University. I enjoyed the talk and especially found the materiality of the biologically-inspired designs of interest.

Although my interest is not as a fashion designer but rather as someone who is interested in science education — of the mathematical and computer sciences. Galina noted that many different types of technologies were used during the design process. So, I wondered what science information these technologies were imparting on those who use them. The answer is: quite a lot.
