<p>Mydaughter is now 20 years old. When she was about 5, I completed the highly competitive application process to become a <a href="https://tpwd.texas.gov/warden/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Texas Game Warden</a>. I was selected to enroll in the Game Warden Cadet Academy and needed only to report to Hamilton, Texas for physical readiness training (PRT). I didn’t report, and my acceptance was immediately rescinded. At that time, I believed the better decision was to stay closer to my daughter.</p>
<p>Fast forward to 2023, I am a data privacy manager for a global hospitality company, earning more than my parents ever did combined. Yet, the passion for serving others and the pride I have in helping to protect the state of Texas’ natural resources have never left me. So, when I heard that the 67th cadet class was accepting applicants this year, I reapplied. I was certain I would not get accepted a second time, given I was a no-show years earlier. But to my astonishment, I received official notification this morning that I am advancing to the next stage in the process, PRT.</p>
