Separate But Inclusive

I have noticed that there have been attempts to have separate but equal groups in areas that were formerly very integrated. So much work has been done over the past decades to integrate disenfranchised groups; are we now in the process of dismantling these efforts? Why is some separation sanctioned and others not? Here are some examples, let me know your thoughts.

There is currently a national debate about Gender separation for sports and school bathrooms. Some feel that in both sports and school, bathrooms should be earmarked for use by people of the same biological gender at birth. So if you have changed your gender and now identify with the opposite sex, that should not dictate which bathroom you use or what teams you play on. Only your sex at birth matters as a qualifier. Others feel that it is unfair and discriminatory to not allow individuals access to sports teams and bathrooms that are set aside for the opposite biological sex.
