Our Oppositional Two-Party System is Driving Us to Ruin and Collapse
<p>When Americans think about the United States and its system of government, probably the first thing that comes to mind is the fierce and intractable conflict between the Democrats and the Republicans.</p>
<p>Not our wondrous ‘democracy.’ Not our vaunted tripartite government with its checks and balances. Not our justice system or our commitment to human rights (such as it is).</p>
<p>No, the prime defining characteristic of today’s America is the endless conflict and political gridlock we’re trapped in. And I say ‘trapped’ for good reason: we seem to be hopelessly bogged down in B.S. and/or mired in back-and-forth, alternating partisan control that <em>goes nowhere</em>.</p>
