Digging into History: Serbia’s Spectacular Rediscovery of an Ancient Roman Triumph
<p>Serbian archaeologists recently uncovered a third-century Roman triumphal arch, unveiling a fascinating chapter in the region’s history. \</p>
<p>The arch was unearthed at the Viminacium archaeological site, a Roman city close to the town of Kostolac, approximately 70 kilometers (45 miles) east of Belgrade.</p>
<p>The principal archaeologist, Miomir Korac, reported the discovery during the excavation of Viminacium’s main street, the capital of the Roman province of Moesia. “This is the first such triumphal arch in this area… It can be dated to the first decades of the third century AD,” Korac said.</p>
