The finale of Gladwell’s six part gun series ends with an episode titled “Sin is the failure to bother to care.” This was not only the perfect title for the ending of this series, its a message that hits at the heart of our collective inertia with regards to the mass casualties associated with gun violence.

When we read about mass shootings or hear about the gun deaths of those we know personally, there is indeed mourning and sadness. However, that moment passes and we subsequently do what humans do best which is to go on living our lives.

There are a number of individuals that have taken up the fight of gun control determined to win. These warriors invest time, money, and energy in an effort to address our nation’s gun crisis legislatively. They are unflinching in this fight and their efforts should be commended, however the crisis lies in our propensity for fighting in the first place.

Website
