To Be the First, To Represent, And Yet Never Be Enough

<p> and this isn’t to say that feedback shouldn’t be given, but to criticize something that broke through the mold and finally began to embody some kind of representation for the FIRST TIME, and then to criticize that it did not immediately and perfectly embody DIVERSITY of the full subgroups; it just goes to show that it was never meant for ONE single thing to be representative of something so diverse. Instead of holding this one story back to make it perfectly telling everyone’s story (and therefore telling no one’s story), we need to understand that we need MULTIPLE STORIES to be able to represent the true diversity within us. To place such a weight on the FIRST and the ONLY is so silly; it shouldn’t be THE ONLY for the next years; it should only be the first stepping stone. Ball’s in your court.</p>
