Rajab Tayyab Erdogan: Three Cultures in One Name

Rajab is not a Turkish name. The name became common among Arabs only after the rise of Islam in the 7th century. As Islam spread among the Turks and other non-Arab populations, some started to give the name to their male babies.

In the Arabic language, The name Rajab means respected, regarded, and admired. Islamically, it is the seventh month of the Islamic calendar. This month is regarded as one of the four sacred months in Islam in which battles are prohibited.

Tayyab ( or Tayyeb) is not a Turkish name either. It’s the Arabic word for the well-mannered and the flavorsome.
