<p>I’ve lived on this planet for 34 years. During these years, I was asked one question more than any other.</p>

<p>Ever since I could remember, back in my elementary school days, I’ve had people — young, old, and everywhere in between — come up to me to ask this question. When I was younger, I used to stare back in puzzlement, wondering what they meant.</p>
<p>Did they mean where I was born? Where I grew up? Where my parents were born? Or were they asking about my ancestors? And if so, what did that matter?</p>
