You Don’t Have to Find Your Purpose In Life.

Weall yearn for that magical answer to life’s most perplexing question: “Is this all there is?” As I approach 40, I’m realizing that many of us have been asking the wrong questions. Worse, we’ve been living someone else’s story without fully embracing our own unique journeys.

If it sounds strange, it is.

I, like you, deal with anxiety and depression. Some of it goes away with a few deep breaths. Other days, the discomfort lingers like a stale smell from an unwashed protein shaker, and I’ve come to realize that my emotional struggles often stem from outdated narratives I tell myself. These are fears of being an inadequate father, failing at work, or being forever alone.

I used to believe that achieving something grand would prove these fears wrong. I thought that big achievements would distract me from my insecurities and bring me happiness. But as time marches on, graying my hair and aching my bones, I’ve mostly accumulated shame, guilt, and a routine of merely “clocking in” life’s moments, without truly experiencing them.

I’ve caught myself in pushing, grinding, and chasing cycles — only to repeat the same mistakes. After all, our external circumstances often mirror our internal state.

As Van Leon put it, “The degree to which a person can grow is directly proportional to the amount of truth he can accept about himself without running away.”
